A Riverside Sauna – Where Tradition Meets Modern Comfort
Experience the peace and warmth of a Finnish sauna by the river, where timeless tradition blends seamlessly with modern comfort. Heated by a wood-burning stove, the log sauna invites you to slow down – to sit on the bench, breathe deeply, and let the steam cleanse both body and mind.
The sauna ritual follows the ways of old: silence, gentle heat, and an unhurried atmosphere reveal the original meaning of the sauna – a sacred moment in the midst of everyday life. While modern conveniences enhance the experience, the essence of the sauna remains unchanged: warm, tranquil, and timeless.
Regular sauna bathing not only brings deep relaxation – it also offers proven health benefits. Sauna relieves stress, lowers blood pressure, relaxes muscles, and supports the health of the heart, brain, and memory.
Welcome to a sauna where every wave of steam tells a story – not of haste, but of presence.
Reservations made through our own website include one free sauna session. If you have made a reservation through external booking channels, you can make a reservation through the calendar below.
Sauna sessions are only intended for guests staying at Aava Riverside. If we detect reservations without accommodation, they will be automatically cancelled and no refunds will be made.
The Sauna and the Finnish Cycle of Life
For centuries, the sauna has been a central part of Finnish life – far more than just a place for washing. In ancient Finland, the sauna was seen as a threshold between the visible and the invisible, a sacred space where life's most significant transitions took place.
People were born in the sauna, and newborns were bathed there for the first time, often during naming ceremonies. Brides were prepared for marriage through special sauna rituals led by women, and in the final stage of life, the deceased were washed in the same sacred space – perhaps even the one in which they had been born. In this way, the sauna formed a quiet, spiritual arc from birth to death – a place through which one both entered and departed the world.
